A Quiet Danger Zone

Mother nature is a fearsome foe, be assured she will not lose. This is a battle that all construction deals with, not least of all, the realm of civil engineering and the specific avenue of road construction. The added “pressure” of constant traffic flow, is something that road design engineering accepts and accommodates as best possible. However, between mother nature’s deflection of a road surface through inherent ground movement, water, heat, cold and other influences, compounded by this traffic movement pressure, especially from heavily loaded commercial vehicles. Occasionally, we see localised sections of the road surface that show particular deviation, or distortion.
