The Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) was founded in 1944, active for some 73 years; not many Institutes have such a history. That noted, as with many Institutes, associations and bodies, they continually face difficult times in this modern era. Many factors influence not only the longevity, but also simply getting new young members and bodies to meet at sessions. Perhaps it is the modern era of easy access to almost every question imaginable on the internet. Perhaps it is the era of simply expecting everything to be laid on, for free at some else effort and if it does not benefit me personally and directly, then why should one bother.
