Vehicle Skid stop distance tests on Gravel roads from 80 kph, 60 kph and 40 kph with different tyres

February 28, 2019 by Accident Specialist Leave a Comment

Accident Specialist, has completed a testing session, “Experimental skid analysis of a vehicle on a gravel road”,

The testing forming part of a formal research session and research paper, with the research paper ABSTRACT providing insight:

Skid control on a typical rural sandy, gravel road has been considered to be similar in conditions as with a wet road. Experimental analysis has been performed on a vehicle travelling at three different speeds (80 km/h, 60 km/h and 40 km/h) and for each speed three different levels of tyre wear condition considered (tyres with tread as new, approximately 38% and wholly illegal or below tread wear indicator level). Similarly, the effect of severe tyre pressure difference on one side of the vehicle combined with the illegal tyres also considered. Testing was also undertaken with and without ABS braking. The results of these tests are presented and analysed.

The resulting research paper will be available in time, nonetheless the following video provides insight to the testing day:
